Hadith Sciences

Hadith

Objectives:

Traditions (Hadith) are records of purported actions, statements, and descriptions of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and his Companions. As these traditions are a key source of Islamic law, thought, culture, and life; second only to the Quran itself, this module aims to introduce students to the important and fascinating field of ḥadīth methodological principles and ḥadīth classification. Students not only learn the jargon and approaches to studying the Hadith literature, but they are guided through a detailed commentary of the 40 Hadith of Imam al-Nawawi.

Outcomes:

  • To prepare students to become specialists in the fields of al-Hadith both in text and transmittal
  • Enrich the Muslim library with original research in the science of al-Hadith
  • Foster and develop the ability of graduates to interact and propagate islam through their commitment to the methods of Prophetic traditions
